Metal Dusting Reduction
Metal dusting is a form of corrosion caused by over-carburization that costs the heat treating and petrochemical industries millions of dollars each year. Samples of 330 stainless steel were coated with Minimox™ treatment, preoxidized, and subjected to pack carburization experiments at 593°C (the temperature where dusting is most severe). Substantial degradation was present in the uncoated sample while the coated and oxidized sample showed minimal degradation.
Material Interface is seeking partners to test the Minimox™ coating in dusting applications. All solutions will be furnished at no charge. Minimox™ coating is currently included in a long-term dusting study at Argonne National Laboratory.
